We Win!

Super Bowl XLII was one of the greatest upsets in the history of football. With only one minute 15 seconds left in the game New York Giants wide receiver David Tyree caught a 32-yard pass that helped his team win a surprise victory over the undefeated New England Patriots. David Tyree’s catch was perhaps one of the biggest plays in Super Bowl history. Tyree jumped higher than he had ever jumped before and trapped the ball against the back portion of his helmet. “It felt like it was destiny,” Tyree said, “I never rocked. I knew God would do what He said He was going to do.”

David Tyree said that God had told him that he would play an integral part in winning the game. He believed God and received the words of prophecy given to him.

God still speaks today. The great scientist and inventor Dr. George Washington Carver said, “God speaks to all of us each and every hour, if only we will listen. I silently ask the creator, often moment by moment, to give me wisdom, understanding and bodily strength to do his will. I am asking and receiving all the time.” David Tyree and George Washington Carver believed they were on the winning team – God’s team.

Someone once said, “I’m not afraid of tomorrow because I’ve read the back of the book and guess what – WE WIN!” When we look at the back of the Book – the Bible – we discover that we win! If you are a believer in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior – you are on the winning team. Your future is as bright as the promises of God. Let’s look at the back of the Book – the book of Revelation – and see why we win. (Revelation 1)

First – JESUS IS ALIVE. Do you want a blessing? Listen to this promise. “God blesses the one who reads the words of this prophecy to the church and he blesses all who listen to its message and obeys what it says for the time is near” (Revelation 1:3 NLT). John gives a letter to the seven churches of Asia. “Grace and peace to you from the one who is, and who always was, and who is still to come . . . and from Jesus Christ. He is the faithful witness . . . the first to rise from the dead and the ruler of all the kings of the world” (Revelation 1:4 NLT). We win because Jesus is alive and Satan has been defeated.

Second – JESUS IS LORD AND KING. “The ruler of all the kings of the world” (Revelation 1:5). “And I hold the keys of death and hell” (Revelation 1:18). God’s Word tells us that one day “every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord” (Philippians 2:10). Have you confessed Him as Lord of your life? He’s coming again. (Revelation 3:11)

Third – HE IS THE ONLY SAVIOR. “All glory to him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by shedding his blood for us” (Revelation 1:5). In Revelation Jesus is referred to as the lion and the lamb. He is the King who willingly became a sacrificial lamb for our sins. “You are worthy . . . For you were slaughtered and your blood has ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation” (Revelation 5:9 NLT). We win because we have a Savior – the only Savior. (John 14:6)

Fourth – HE IS THE JUDGE. When John looked to see the voice speaking to him, he saw “Someone like the Son of Man. He was wearing a long robe with a gold sash . . . His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow. And his eyes were like flames of fire. His feet were liked polished bronze refined in a furnace and his voice thundered” (Revelation 1:12-17 NLT). All will stand before this judge. He will judge with justice and righteousness. He has the keys of death and hell. (Revelation 1:17) Run to him now for mercy. “For how shall we escape if we neglect so great of salvation” (Hebrews 2:3).

Yes, I looked at the back of the Book and WE WIN! Are you on the winning team? Listen to the Lord’s message and obey Him and be empowered to live a victorious life.
