Sweetwater Revival
| In the 60’s and 70’s there emerged an American rock band referred to as CCR or Creedence Clearwater Revival. I enjoyed the sound of what some called swamp rock. But there also emerged at that time a revival movement called The Jesus Movement. That’s why I particularly like the name Clearwater Revival. If I were to have a Christian rock band, I think I would call it Sweetwater Revival. My voice is getting froggy and is far inferior to John Fogerty of CCR, so I promise not to sing, but maybe by grandson Taet will let me play his Taylor guitar in Sweetwater Revival. |
America needs revival – a Sweetwater revival. God is calling us back to Himself. “Deep calls unto deep at the noise of your waterfalls” (Psalm 42:7-11 NKJV). In the Bible days water was a precious and scarce commodity. Water brought life and fruitfulness. Many manifestations of God’s power and glory happened at water sources. Notice the many references to wells, water, springs, fountains, streams, rivers, and seas. The enemy has always tried to fill-in or stop these water sources from flowing. There is a God encounter awaiting you that will bring the Sweetwater of life, revival, and recovery. Seek God. (Psalm 42)
REVIVAL turns bitterness into sweetness. When the Israelites were delivered out of Egyptian slavery, what a celebration they had. But then God led them three days through the desert without water. When they finally came to an oasis called Marah, the water was so bitter they could not drink it. They complained and cried out to Moses. God instructed Moses to take a piece of wood and throw in into the water. When Moses did so, the bitter water became sweet water! (Exodus 15)
When you face the bitterness of life, know that there is a remedy. I believe that piece of wood that Moses threw into the bitter water points us to the old rugged cross. When Jesus died on the cross he took the poison of sin and death for all who would come to him. In Gethsemane’s Garden Jesus drank the bitter cup of sorrow and sin for us. (Isaiah 53; Matthew 26:36-46) It was at Marah that God revealed His healing nature. But don’t stay at Marah. God led the Israelites to Elim where there was an oasis with 12 springs and 70 palm trees. (Exodus 15:26-27) It’s through Christ’s offering on the cross that we can travel on to sweet life giving water springing up to everlasting life. (Isaiah 49:6-10) Cool Sweetwater.
RECOVERY comes through the cross. Read the account of the young man who lost an expensive ax-head that was borrowed. As he was chopping down a tree the ax-head fell into the water. (II Kings 6:1-6) The young man was frantic. The prophet Elisha threw a branch into the water and the ax-head swam. The young man put his hand in and recovered it. Do you need recovery in your life? I believe that branch thrown into the water speaks of Jesus who is called the branch. (Isaiah 4:2; Zechariah 3:8; John 15:4) There is recovery in Jesus. (Luke 15)
REFRESHING Sweetwater is poured out on the thirsty. (Isaiah 55:1-3) Jesus had an appointment with a woman of Samaria at Jacob’s well. (John 4) Jesus asked for a drink. She initiated a religious discussion. Jesus said, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is who says to you ‘Give me a drink’, you would have asked Him and He would have given you living water . . . but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life” (John 4:10-14 NKJV). Go to the well and drink deeply of the water of salvation. Experience the Sweetwater of revival.
