Renewed Like the Eagles
|
Fall is a bittersweet time of the year. The dazzling fall foliage and the mysterious migratory flight of birds and butterflies are awe-inspiring. But the deadness of winter saddens me. Yet, I realize that without seasons of life there would be no spring of new life. If you are in the fall or winter of your life, God has good news. He offers hope in your season of life. We must all go through the seasons of life irrespective of who you are or how hard you try to curtail or prolong the seasons of your life. The good news is that your strength can be renewed like the eagles. (See Isaiah 40:28-31.) |
First – The Wonder of the Eternal Word can bring proper perspective. “Shout that people are like the grass that dies away. Their beauty fades as quickly as the beauty of flowers in a field. The grass withers and the flowers fade beneath the breath of the Lord. And so it is with people. The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the Word of the Lord stands forever” (Isaiah 40:6-8 NLT). You can depend on and trust in the eternal Word of God.
Second – Waiting on the Lord will renew your strength. To wait is to trust in His sovereign power. Meditate on God’s greatness and goodness – “How He bore you up on eagle’s wings” (Exodus 19:4-5). Trust in His promises – “He gives power to those who are tired and worn out; he offers strength to the weak” (Isaiah 40:9-29 NLT). As you meditate on God’s Word, “He satisfies your mouth with good things so your youth is renewed like the eagles” (Psalm 103:5).
As you wait before the Lord in prayer and praise, God fulfills His wonderful promise – “They shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles” (Isaiah 40:31).
Third – Wizened Eagles are Renewed Eagles. When an eagle reaches about 50 years of age, his beak begins to freeze shut and he can no longer eat. Some give up and die. But some find a cave or a cleft in a rock where water is present. The old eagle goes into the cave and beats his beak on a rock until it is broken off. The eagle drinks water for 40 days until it grows a new beak. The eagle than begins to pull out its old feathers and a sack filled with oil grows over the heart. The eagle than breaks the oil sack with the new beak and spreads the oil over his body. Beautiful new golden feathers grow in and the eagle is renewed. The eagle’s body is also strengthened through this process and can fly higher than before and see better than before.
Being shut in with God in a secret place will renew your strength. Don’t give up until you get a fresh Word from the Lord. Stay in His presence until the fresh oil of the Holy Spirit fills and covers you. (See Psalm 103:5; Isaiah 55; and Jude 20.) God promises to renew your youth like the eagles.
Fourth – Wings Like Eagles will take you above the storms of life. When fierce storms arise most birds and animals seek shelter. Eagles mount up above the storms by riding the air currents. When storms come against you, wait on the Lord and the wind of His presence will carry you above the problems and perplexities you face.
When Paul and Silas were beaten and thrown in prison for preaching Jesus, they didn’t worry or whine. They worshipped. At midnight they raised their voices to God in prayer and praise. As they sang unto the Lord, God sent an earthquake and they were miraculously released from prison. The Philippian jailer and his whole household were converted to Christ. When Paul and Silas chose to wait upon the Lord, They mounted up with wings as eagles. God is looking for believers who will live the eagle life. He gives you His promise, “And you shall be unto me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation” (Exodus 19:6; I Peter 2:9-10). An eagle is the symbol of freedom and royalty. You have that destiny in Christ.
Fifth – The Way of an Eagle. “There be three things which are too wonderful for me, yea, four which I know not: the way of an eagle in the air” (Proverbs 30:19).
You can be renewed like an eagle. But you must first be “born an eagle”. Jesus called it “born again” (John 3:3). Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man cometh to the Father but by me” (John 14:6). Yes, Jesus is the way. Surrender your life to Christ today and live the “Eagle Life”.
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and shalt believe in thine heart that God has raised him from the dead thou shalt be saved” (Romans 10:9-10).
