The Power of God
| We have seen the amazing power of nature in earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. But our little finite minds can only begin to imagine the power of our Creator or the ability of our infinite God in all things. God has revealed Himself in His Book – the Bible – to help us grasp the unfolding revelation of His power to do anything thought by man to be impossible. He created the immense and mighty universe and it has been hanging there for thousands of years on nothing but His sustaining power. God has been holding the world together in spite of the destructive powers of both Satan and man. |
Let’s glimpse into God’s Word and see some of the revelations of God’s absolute, unlimited power. For all things are possible with God. (Matthew 19:26; Mark 9:23; 10:27; Luke 18:27)
GOD’S POWER TO DELIVER – when God determined to keep His covenant with Israel and deliver them out of Egyptian slavery, He sent 10 plagues upon Egypt to convince Pharaoh to let His people go. The magicians could duplicate some of them – but not all. They told Pharaoh, “This is the finger of God” (Exodus 8:19 NASB). The movie “The Ten Commandments” has them saying convincingly, “Their God is God.” “The Lord is my strength and song and He has become my salvation; this is my God and I will praise Him; . . . Who is like you among the gods, O Lord? Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in praises, working wonders?” (Exodus 15:1-11 NASB)
GOD’S POWER TO CREATE – “Ah, Lord God! Behold you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for you” (Jeremiah 32:17 NKJV). “God . . . has in these last days spoken to us by His Son whom He has appointed heir of all things through whom also He has made the worlds” (Hebrews 1:1-2).
THE POWER OF GOD’S WORD – “’Is not my word like a fire?’ says the Lord, ‘and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?’” (Jeremiah 23:29). “For the word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword” (Hebrews 4:12).
THE POWER OF CHRIST – “Who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person and upholding all things by the word of His power when He had by Himself purged our sins sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high” (Hebrews 1:3). “And what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in heavenly places . . . and He put all things under His feet” (Ephesians 1:19-22).
THE POWER OF GOD’S ABILITY – “Therefore, He is also able to save to the uttermost t0hose who come to God through Him, since He ever lives to make intercession for them” (Hebrews 7:25).
THE POWER OF CHRIST TO FORGIVE SINS – “If you, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with you, that you may be feared” (Psalm 130:3-4). “Which is easier to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise, take up your bed and walk?’ But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins. He said to the paralytic, ‘I say to you arise, take up your bed and go your way’” (Mark 9:9-12). As the hymnist put it, “All hail the power of Jesus’ name. Let angels prostrate fall. Bring forth the royal diadem and crown Him Lord of all. Bring forth the royal diadem and crown Him Lord of all.”
The power of God is unlimited. God’s mighty power is available to all who, through faith, repentance, and obedience, claim the promises of God. (Hebrews 11:1-6)
