My Father’s House

I remember the house my father built with his own hands when I was a child. Much of it was built with used lumber. I remember pulling hundreds of nails from the old boards. We mixed the cement ourselves in an old cement mixer. Compared to most homes, it might have been considered just a simple cottage. But it was a labor of love.

I’ve got a more glorious mansion awaiting me in my Father’s House. The carpenter of Nazareth built it with nailed scarred hands. Jesus told His disciples, whose hearts were sorrowful because of their Lord’s predicted death on the cross, “Let not your hearts be troubled, believe in God, believe also in me.

In my Father’s house are many mansions, if it were not so I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself, that where I am, there you may be also” (John 14:1-3).

Just the thought of heaven boggles the mind and speaks to our deepest longings. Heaven is a real place. With Jesus as your Savior you can have the assurance that you will one day walk through those gates of pearl into heaven.

If a relative had left you the title deed to a beautiful mansion in a far away country, you would want to learn as much as you could about the country and the mansion and about the one who gave it to you. Better yet, you would want to go there to see it and take possession of it.

The Bible gives us glimpses of the glories of heaven. Jesus told us much about heaven and warned of the terrible place called hell, where those who reject or neglect salvation are doomed forever.

Are you curious about where you will spend eternity? Read about it in the Word of God. You will discover the answer to many questions concerning our Father’s House. Where is heaven located? What kind of body will we have? What about marriage? What will the Holy City be like? What will we do up there all that time? One thing is certain, the splendor and glory of heaven will surpass our earthly hopes, dreams, and desires.

For the believer in Christ, death is a doorway into eternal joy. Death is a doorway out of the inequalities of life into perfect justice. Jesus illustrated this with the story of the rich man and the beggar who both died. Justice and judgment was served immediately after death. (See Luke 16:19-31.) Death is a doorway into the end of suffering and pain for the child of God. (See Revelation 7:13-17; 21:3-7; 22:4, 5.)

Where is heaven? An old hymn says, “Where Jesus is, ‘tis heaven for me!” Heaven is only a prayer away. It is accessible to everyone through prayer. But heaven is also a real place occupied by real inhabitants. Paul spoke of being caught up to the third heaven (II Corinthians 12:2). Where will we live in heaven? Jesus says we will live in mansions that He prepares (John 11:26; 14:2).

From Revelation 21:6 we learn that the capital city of heaven, the New Jerusalem, is 1,500 miles long, wide, and high. “The glory of God gives it light and the Lamb is its lamp” (Revelation 21:23 MIV). Twelve gates are positioned in the wall around the city, each a single pearl (Revelation 21:21). The gates allow people to enter the city or to go out into what might be considered the countryside. The walls around the city consist of twelve layers of gems as mentioned in Revelation 21. God promises us that in exchanges for sins forgiven and living of Christ here on earth, that we will walk on streets of gold up there.

In our Father’s House we will have a grand reunion with loved ones, a continuous joyful occupation of our time; music that is out of this world, freedom from sickness, sorrow, sin, and loneliness; and, best of all, the all-pervading presence of Jesus, the Lamb of God, slain from the foundations of the world for our redemption. (See Revelation 5:6-10.)

When Jesus told His disciples about His Father’s house, Thomas said, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, nor the way.” Jesus replied,” I am the way and the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father but through me” (John 14:4-6).

Read about your inheritance in the Holy Bible. You can claim it and start your journey to the Father’s house – heaven.

A - Admit you have sinned. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of
God.” (Romans 3:23)

B - Believe in Jesus. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that
whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

C - Confess and leave your sin. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will
forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)
