Inside Information
|
Business savvy people keep their eyes and ears open for inside information. Investors may value certain information that could give them leverage or a leg up in making a good profit with a timely investment or business deal. A few years ago I had a friend who had a friend who had a cousin who had a nephew who worked for a large grocery chain. His friend’s cousin had some inside information that the price of coffee was going to increase dramatically because of the weather and weevils in the coffee bean crop of Brazil. |
One day I happened to stop by his house and, in a casual conversation, remarked that for some reason I couldn’t find a certain brand of coffee. “Oh, no problem”, my friend exclaimed. He then proceeded to show me his kitchen pantry that was filled with shelves full of that particular brand of coffee. No wonder there was a shortage of coffee – inside information. Ask my wife where all the new quarters are.
Some claim to have inside information that enables them to forecast the future. In the commercial world, corporations, and manufacturers seek out the most skilled prognosticators or forecasters of future trends and needs so that their companies can be prepared ahead of time for anticipated growth, challenges or customer demands. Certain psychics maintain that they can foresee or predict the future. Some even publish a yearly list of events that will take place. Last year I looked back at the end of the year at two of the best-known psychics predictions. They were 95% - 100% wrong. Most people could have guessed with greater accuracy.
Despite the failure of much inside information, there is a foolproof inside information available. It’s the Bible, God’s Word. It is 100% accurate. The Creator of the universe authored the Bible. “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” (2 Peter 1:21) With this inside information you can direct your life and daily affairs without fear of failure. “For all scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” (2Timothy 3:16)
Because of His omniscience (all-knowing), God alone can foreknow and foretell the future, and He gave us His plan for the ages in His prophetic Word. An early church father, Justin Martyr, overwhelmed by this fact, said, “To declare a thing shall come to pass long before it is in being, and to bring it to pass, this or nothing is the work of God.” We have the explicit statement that God alone, in the Bible alone, gave the world true prophecies, inside information (see Isaiah 46:9, 10).
In the Old Testament there are over 300 prophecies foretelling of the Messiah, His birth of a virgin, the place of His birth, His manner of death, His resurrection, His second coming, and His rule on earth were all foretold in minute detail. Furthermore, as prophecy is history written in advance, we have inside information in the Bible. We are up-to-date in the trend of international events today if we have knowledge of the unfolding plan of God, which the Bible provides.
The key that unlocks the mysteries of the ages and opens the door into life abundant and eternal is JESUS. He gives us inside information for now and our future. He is the inside information.
Inside the Bible we have a revelation of the cross of Christ. In Bishop Fulton Sheen’s volume Life Is Worth Living (Fourth Series), he reminds us that when we look at the broken person of Christ on the cross, we begin to see the full gravity of our sin. We see there our own biography:
“The cross is the desk upon which it is written – His blood the ink – His nails the pen – His flesh the parchment. We see our evil thoughts in the Crown of Thorns – our avarice in the hands that are pierced with nails – our wanderings away from the path of goodness in the feet pinned with nails, and all false loves are the open and rent side.”
The Bishop concludes with this inside information, “On the cross He poured forth His blood, not because blood ship pleased the Father, but because the sinner deserved to die and He, willing to be one with sinners, chose to bear the punishment our sins deserved.”
When you commit your life to Christ and trust in His sacrifice on the cross, you are put on the inside track to adventure and eternal life. Your future becomes as bright as the promises of God.
Jesus said, “Search the scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life, and they are they which testify of me” (John 5:39).
