Increasing Faith

All true believers want their faith to increase. “Without faith it is impossible to please God” (Hebrews 11:6). We cannot receive anything from God without faith. The benefits of the cross come to us only by faith in Christ. The power of the resurrection can only be appropriated by faith. (Philippians 3:10)

One of the apostles of faith was Smith Wigglesworth. In his classic book Ever Increasing Faith it is quite evident that a key to Wigglesworth’s radical faith and miraculous works was his radical obedience to God. Faith increases as we are obedient.

In his book Under Cover John Bevere sums up in his last chapter on “Great Faith”, “the greater our level of submission, the greater our faith.” In Luke 17:1-5 the apostles asked the Lord to “Increase our faith.” It was not the miracles that they saw that motivated them to make such a request. No, it was when Jesus told them that if asked they must forgive a person who wronged them seven times in a day or in another passage 70 X 7. That was a difficult task. How could they obey? “Increase our faith, Lord,” they said.

Jesus illustrated the power of mustard seed faith. (Luke 5:6) How do we plant and grow the faith to see mulberry trees and mountains cast into the sea? Jesus gave the parable of a faithful servant who did all he was commanded. (Luke 17:7-10) John Bevere draws out three significant points that relates to “Increasing Our Faith”.

1. There is a direct connection between faith and obedience to authority.

2. Faith increases only when we complete what we’re commanded to do.

3. An attitude of true humility is of utmost importance.

Yes, The time is short. Jesus is coming soon. Is your faith ever increasing? Follow Jesus’ directives for increasing faith and the blessings of God on your life.
