Full Coverage
|
It was a beautiful sunrise that greeted me as I drove to the hospital and walked into the pre-op room. I had come to bring some cheer to a friend soon to undergo heart surgery. But as I prepared to read scripture and pray, he brought cheer to me as he said, “I’m not worried, Pastor, I have full coverage.” What a great statement! He wasn’t referring to his insurance coverage, but he was referring to the blessed assurance that a believer has in Christ. During the recent flood and tornado disasters in our region, many who thought they had full coverage insurance had a rude awakening |
When they examined their policy and read the fine print, it was discovered that certain things deemed covered by their insurer were not because they were considered “acts of God.” (Why some call disasters “acts of God” is beyond me. God is good! Why not call them “acts of the devil”?) Many individuals suffered the loss of everything because they did not have full coverage.
My friend undergoing surgery realized that monetary security is not enough when facing the storms of life. Many people come to a crisis in their life and find that they are spiritually empty and powerless to cope with it. But God has a full-coverage policy that will give you blessed assurance to face whatever comes your way. Examine your heart. Do you have full-coverage?
The prophet Isaiah prophesied of a coming Messiah who would provide full-coverage for all our sins and transgressions. This Savior would pay the premium in full by dying for our sins, paying the ransom price and making atonement with His own precious blood.
“Yet it was our weaknesses He carried; it was our sorrows that weighed Him down. And we thought His troubles were a punishment from God for His own sins! But He was wounded and crushed for our sins. He was beaten that we might have peace. He was whipped and we were healed! All of us have strayed away like sheep. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on Him the guilt and sins of us all” (Isaiah 53:4-6 NLT).
Jesus Christ came to pay for full-coverage. Through His sacrifice on the cross there is spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical health for those who put faith in Christ and the atoning work of His blood. “He was wounded and crushed for our sins” (Isaiah 53:5 NLT). The cornerstone of the gospel is that Christ died for us. And through Him we can have our sins and diseases forgiven and covered. (See Psalm 103:3.) “For when we were without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly…But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:6, 8 NKJ).
I recently put on the signboard in front of our church the message, “He died for you.” One morning as I sat in my study, I heard a man yell as he passed by “He died for you!” Whether it was out of mockery, guilt, or conviction, what that passerby yelled out is true. Jesus died for me and He died for you. His blood covers it all. “And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, He will certainly save us from God’s judgment” (Romans 5:9 NLT). Talk about full-coverage!
Isaiah told us “He was beaten that we might have peace” (Isaiah 53:5 NLT). Christ took the punishment that we deserved when He was whipped, beaten, and nailed to the cross. Christ satisfied the just demands of a Holy God. (See Isaiah 53:11.) Jesus provides the full-coverage of peace. Peace with God, the peace of God in all circumstances, and peace of mind. (See Isaiah 26:3.)
Isaiah also told us “by His stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5). “He was whipped and we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5 NLT). In the Old Testament, Christ was revealed as “Jehovah Ropheka – the Lord who heals”. (See Exodus 15:26 and Numbers 21:8, 9.) Matthew reveals that Jesus fulfilled Isaiah’s prophecy by healing all who were sick and diseased. (See Matthew 8:16, 17.) Jesus is the Great Physician. Put your faith in His blood atonement for healing. (See Psalm 103:3.)
On the cross Jesus promised the repentant thief, “Today you will be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:43). Christ’s coverage is eternal.
I can hear in my mind George Beverly Shea singing the hymn by Mrs. Walter G. Taylor, “Calvary Covers It All” – “Far dearer than all that the world can impart was the message that came to my heart; How that Jesus alone for my sin did atone, and Calvary covers it all…Calvary covers it all, my past with its sin and stain; my guilt and despair Jesus took on Him there, and Calvary covers it all.”
Do you have full-coverage? Don’t wait until it is to late to find out. Church membership, infant baptism, or even your own goodness cannot guarantee it. Only by personal faith in Christ can you be assured of full-coverage for your life. (See Ephesians 2:8, 9.)
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth, the Lord Jesus and believe in thine heart that God has raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved….” (Romans 10:9, 10).
