Fight the Good Fight
|
October is known for harvest and Halloween. Spiritually speaking, there is little harvest of souls without dealing with what Halloween represents. For many, Halloween is simply fun and games or a spoof on ghosts, goblins, death, demons, and the devil. But the kingdom of darkness is real and deadly serious about destroying and damning souls to a Christ less eternity in hell. Peter admonishes us, “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world” (I Peter 5:8-9 NLT; NKJV). |
Paul commands us to “Fight the good fight of faith lay hold on eternal life . . . and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses” (I Timothy 6:12 NKJV). What do we need to put on the full armor of God and fight the good fight?
First – a COURAGEOUS heart. We are to boldly resist the enemy in Jesus name. (James 4:7) In “Plundering Hell – to populate Heaven: the Reinhard Bonnke Story” by Ron Steele we see a key to his success. “If God’s people are bold enough to speak in line with the Word of God, God proves His own Word. None of us needs to defend the Almighty. A lion needs no defense. Just open the cage!”
Second – a COMMITTED way. (Psalm 37:5) James tells us before we engage the enemy; make sure you are submitted to Christ. (James 4:6-7) It’s all or nothing to be a conqueror. (Romans 8:31-37)
Third – a CASTING hand. A grasping hand or a casting hand? Cast your cares (I Peter 5:7). Cast your crowns of praise before the Lord (Revelation 4:9-11; Psalm 149).
Fourth – a CONFESSING mouth. Are you confessing the good confession? (I Timothy 6:12) T. L. Osborn, a man of great faith, said that confessing negative things like sickness and defeat is like “Signing for a package the express company has delivered. Satan then has the receipt – your confession – from you showing that you have accepted his package. Do not accept anything sent by the devil.” Confess Jesus as Lord. (Romans 10:8-10).
