Are You Under God’s Cover?
| Why are Westerners some of the most resistant people to truly hearing the Word of God? It is hard to understand kingdom principles with a democratic mind-set. Democracy is fine for the nations of the world, but we must remember that the kingdom of God is just that – a kingdom. It is ruled by a king and there is rank, order, and authority. So ascertains author John Bevere in his book entitled Under Cover. The laws of God’s kingdom are not superseded by or subject to popular opinion, voting, or polls. Our culture refuses to accept this truth. |
God promises provision and protection when we submit to His authority. “There is freedom in submission and bondage in rebellion”, states Lisa Bevere. All authority originates from God. “Let every soul be subject to governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God and the authorities that exist are appointed by God and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves” (Romans 13:1-2).
Consider these three points. First – God appoints all existing rulers. Second – to rebel against those authorities is to rebel against the ordinances of God Himself. God is the author of all scripture (II Timothy 3:16). Third – Those who resist the authority of God, whether directly as Paul did (Acts 9:5) or indirectly to His delegated authority, will find themselves kicking against the goad in God’s hands. That can be painful!
God is pleased with submission that leads to true obedience. The purpose of Bevere’s book is not only to reveal the importance of submission to God’s authority, but to create a love and passion for obedience to it.
Is Jesus Lord of your life?
“That if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and shall believe in your heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved” (Romans 10:9).
